"So... what do YOU do?"

Ugh! The most dreaded of all questions!

The moment those words leave someone’s mouth, my brain packs a small suitcase and exits the building.  I start mumbling and monologue’ing about “creative projects” and “lots of things,” as I watch the light drain out of the asker’s eyes.  It’s like watching a balloon deflate in slow motion… except the balloon is our conversation, and I’m the one holding the pin.

I’ve never managed to produce a quick, cohesive “elevator speech” about what it is that I do.

The best I can offer is this:  I’m a multi-dimensional creative creature who tells stories… in a wide variety of ways.

Sometimes those stories emerge in book-form as illustrated rhymes.  Sometimes they morph into screenplays or short films, or theatre productions, or songs and musical compositions. Other times they’re expressed as art journals, workshops, or keynote talks at big events.

But enough of my rambling… let me rather attempt to respond to the ‘what-do-you-do?’ question with a “show” rather than (yet another) poorly constructed “tell”.  Click your choice of box to learn more….

"How Heather got her HAT'ness back!"

"It's like... Dr Seuss meets Bridget Jones"

A full-colour, rhymed, illustrated memoir – part confessional, part creative rebellion – How Heather Got Her HAT’ness Back is for anyone who’s ever tried to fit in… and lost a little of themselves in the process.

Once upon a time, Heather was Hat — a tree-climbing, feather-wearing wild child who coloured outside every line.  But as the world’s voices grew louder (“be neat, be good, be pretty, be normal”)…she began trading her much’ness for approval, one compromise at a time.

Years later, surrounded by bills, beige routines and other people’s expectations, she began to wonder:  What happened to the real me… and how do I get her back?

Told in whimsical rhyme and exploding with colourful hand-drawn illustrations and messy collages,  How Heather Got Her HAT’ness Back is a witty, heartfelt celebration of rediscovering your much’ness — and daring to let it shine again.
